Difference Between UPVC, Aluminium and Wooden Windows

Difference Between Upvc, Aluminium and Wooden Windows

Window enhance the beauty and appearance of the building. Today in this article we are going to discuss the difference between Upvc, Aluminium and wooden windows.

Difference Between UPVC, Aluminium and Wooden Windows

 UPVC Windows
  1. UPVC Windows are environment-friendly hence it requires very less energy to convert raw material to finished goods.
  2. Strength and durability of uPVC Windows are less as compared to aluminium windows.
  3. Upvc windows can be operated smoothly without making any noise.
  4. UPVC does not expand and contract same to the same extent as timber or aluminium and so the frame can remain stable and not swell or sink which mostly leads to the badly fitting window.
  5. UPVC Windows provides superior thermal insulation to your home from outside heat and u PVC is a poor conductor of heat u PVC is naturally warm material and the multi-chamber frames of u PVC is great for insulation helping you keep your bills down during the winter. Windows made with uPVC is generally better thermal insulator than aluminium only if it kept dry.
  6. UPVC Windows are termite resistant.
  7. After uses up to 99%, Upvc material can be separated from hardware and reinforcement.
  8. UPVC Windows do not rust or corrode due to inherent material characteristic.
  9. Upvc windows are made of special UV resistant blend and therefore they do not fade even after prolonged exposure to Sun.
  10.  Upvc windows are self-extinguishing and they do not propagate fire.
  11. UPVC Windows may allow easy escape in case of fire due to its lower softening temperature glass can be pushed out of the frame easily.
  12.  UPVC is an environment-friendly material.
Difference Between UPVC, Aluminium and Wooden Windows
  13. UPVC windows offer better soundproofing as compared to aluminium and wooden Windows however it is worth noting that a great deal of soundproofing comes from the glazing itself rather than just the frame. if you opt for high-quality double glazing your home should remain relatively-quite. Tripple glazing even further improves the windows ability to block sound. if you live in a very noisy area u PVC may be a curable option for you.
  14.  UPVC Windows has a bit of reputation for being bulky and unsightly and the plastic look is not particularly appealing for homeowners who want something in little more unique for their property.
  15. UPVC windows are lightweight.
  16. UPVC  Windows doesn't require any paint or polish.
  17. UPVC has a low scrap value as compared to aluminium but more scrap value as compared to wood.
  18. UPVC does not swell due to moisture.
  19. Upvc windows can be used in any weather condition they are suitable for all areas including coastal area.
  20. UPVC windows can be recycled for more than 10 times it means you can melt u PVC 10 time and again use it.
  21. Upvc windows are  pretty secured whereas timber windows are vulnerable to forced entry if they degrade.
  22. As per National Building Federation report uPVC Windows to have a life expectancy of 20 to 25 years
  23. UPVC windows require no painting only routine cleaning is sufficient.
  24. UPVC tends to be cheaper than aluminium and wood.
Aluminium Windows
  1. Aluminium window frame uses a large amount of energy in conversion. aluminium window requires 7.5 times more energy than that required to manufacture uPVC window.
  2. Aluminium windows are stronger and more durable than u PVC Windows.
  3. Aluminium windows make noise and they are affected with weather and moisture.
  4.  Aluminium has a very high thermal expansion Coefficient as compared to  UPVC leading to product distortion if not manufactured and installed appropriately.
  5. Aluminium is a highly conductive material which means heat can pass through it very easy for a while aluminium was therefore seen as a thermally inefficient choice for windows as compared to Upvc.
  6. Aluminium windows do not attract termite.
  7. In case of aluminium window separations difficult as the profile is treated with paint silicon and various protection coating.
  8. Aluminium is prone to oxidation and susceptible to corrosion especially if you live near a coastal environment.
  9. Aluminium windows are typically powder coated or anodized. If the powder coating is not high UV resistant then it can discolour quickly.
  10. Aluminium windows have a very high melting temperature.
  11. Aluminium and glass both have a high melting point and therefore does not assist in an easy breakaway.
  12. Aluminium is an environment-friendly material.
Difference Between UPVC, Aluminium and Wooden Windows
  13. Aluminium windows are not soundproof as compared to u PVC and wooden Windows.
  14. The aluminium window frame can be much Slimmer than u PVC which gives them a clean minimal look that is very popular in modern homes.
  15. Aluminium windows are lightweight.
  16. Aluminium windows require powder coating or Anodizing.
  17. aluminium has a high Scrap value as compared to both uPVC and wood.
  18. Water with higher pH can attack all aluminium alloy.
  19. Aluminium windows are designed to withstand some extreme condition but if the powder coating gets damaged then it makes it corroded.
  20. Aluminium loses no quality during the recycling process and can be recycled forever.
  21. Aluminium windows are  pretty secured
  22. Aluminium is a highly durable material hence aluminium Windows can last up to 45 years because it doesn’t degrade in the same way that uPVC can.
  23. Aluminium window may require periodic maintenance over a long period of usage.
  24. Aluminium windows are more expensive than u PVC due to the higher cost of material and manufacturing.
Wooden windows
  1. Wooden windows require less energy as compared to aluminium windows.
  2. Wooden windows are stronger and more durable than u PVC Windows.
  3. Wooden windows are not smooth they make noise while operating.
  4. Wood has an inherent property to absorb moisture or expand and contract which eventually leads to destruction and gaps.
  5. Wood is a poor conductor of heat however improper sealing and bending can allow it to pass.
  6. Wooden windows are prone to termite it is very important to ensure that wooden windows are sealed with the correct product in the correct manner before installation.
  7. In case of wooden window separation of hardware is difficult.
  8. Wooden windows do not rust or corrode.
  9. Wooden windows start fading very soon. They require constantly re-polishing or finishing.
  10. Wooden windows can catch fire very easily.
  11. The wood itself can catch fire very easily.
  12. Wood is not environment-friendly as it courage deforestation.
Difference Between UPVC, Aluminium and Wooden Windows
  13. In the case of soundproofing wooden Windows are better than aluminium.
  14. Wooden windows are aesthetically pleasing but they look poor if not maintained properly.
  15. Wooden windows are heavy in weight.
  16. Wooden windows require painting or polish.
  17. Wood has a very low scrap value as compared to u PVC and Aluminium.
  18. In the case of a wooden window, wood is a porous material so it absorbs water and expands. When it expands it is difficult to shut the window.
  19. Wooden windows cannot be used in the coastal area and the area where heavy rainfall occurs.
  20. Wooden windows can also be recycled but it has the limitation.
  21. Wooden windows are vulnerable to forced entry if they degrade.
  22. Wooden windows can last up to 30 years or more if maintained properly.
  23. Wooden windows need regular painting and Polishing.
  24. Wood is more expensive than Upvc and aluminium after glazing and painting or varnishing.
