What is a BHK?
BHK is a short form for bedrooms, a hall, and a kitchen. It is the notation that is used to describe the number of rooms in a flat or house. The number before these terms indicates the number of bedrooms.
For Instance, 1 BHK means the specific property(Flat/ House) has one bedroom, a hall, and a kitchen. 2 Bhk indicates the separate unit (Flat/ House) has two bedrooms, a hall, and a kitchen.
Evan, this property also has toilets/bathrooms, but sometimes the sellers don’t mention it as they describe the room numbers.
Some sellers also market their flat /house as a 3BHK+2T unit. Here, ‘2T‘ stands for two toilets. This term highlight the benefit of the combined area.
What is RHK?
RHK refers to a property with a room, hall, and kitchen. The room can be used as a bedroom or living room along with a hall and a kitchen.
The term RHK is used instead of BHK because, as per regulation(RERA), the standard size for a bedroom is 10.22 square meters or 110 square feet.
A room smaller than this size can’t be said a bedroom; that’s why the term RHK comes into existence.
BHK Uses
The BHK is used to specify the layout of flats, houses, bungalows, and villas. But this term is not appropriate for plots.
However, sellers may use this term to show the plot’s potential, like you can construct a 2BHK or 3BHK house on it.

What is a 0.5 BHK?
It indicates a unit with a half bedroom smaller than a standard-size bedroom along with a hall and a kitchen.
Because of fast urbanization, the need for dwelling space is growing. Developers know the need of buyers; that’s why they have been experimenting with different terms.
This added space can be used as a study room, pooja room, storeroom, children’s playroom, library etc., but it can be used with the bedroom. It is enough for a small size family.

A 1.5BHK unit refers to a flat/house with a standard-sized and small-sized bedroom that could be used as an extra room, study room, library, servant room, or even a storeroom.
What is meant by 2.5BHK?
A 2.5BHK refers to a particular property with two standard-size bedrooms and a smaller-size room that can serve as a storeroom study room, extra room or servant room.
These kinds of properties are becoming more prevalent, mainly in the Delhi NCR. This kind of unit is suitable for mid-size families.
What is 1RK?
1 RK refers to a particular property with one room and kitchen along with a toilet/bathroom. It is another alternative for home buyers looking for a small flat/house.
It is suitable for frequent travellers buyers who don’t want to stay in a hotel and look for a limited budget property in another city. This kind of property is suitable for buyers with a limited budget.
